Leaderboards – Compete for the Top Rank
ShapeArena leaderboards rank every player by their best composite score for each shape. Three time periods, seven shapes, and a medal system give you plenty of ways to compete and stand out. Here is how it all works.
What the Leaderboards Are
Every time you submit a drawing, your composite score is recorded. The leaderboards collect every player's best score for each shape within a given time period and rank them from highest to lowest. Your goal is simple: draw better than everyone else and claim the top spot.
Leaderboards are not just a scoreboard — they are the competitive heart of ShapeArena. They give every drawing session a purpose beyond personal practice. Whether you are chasing a daily top-three finish or grinding for a monthly medal, the leaderboards turn shape-drawing into a real competition.
Three Time Periods
Rankings are tracked across three distinct time windows. Each one resets independently, so you always have a fresh chance to compete.
Daily Leaderboard
The daily leaderboard resets every day at midnight UTC. It captures only the scores submitted during that calendar day. This is the fastest-moving leaderboard — your rank can change rapidly as other players submit new scores throughout the day. It rewards players who are active and willing to make multiple attempts to perfect their drawing.
Weekly Leaderboard
The weekly leaderboard runs on a calendar week from Monday through Sunday. Your best score for each shape during that Monday-to-Sunday window is what counts. This gives you a full week to put in your best effort without the pressure of a single-day window. It resets every Monday at midnight UTC.
Monthly Leaderboard
The monthly leaderboard covers an entire calendar month, from the first day to the last. It resets on the first of each month at midnight UTC. Because the window is longer, the monthly leaderboard tends to reflect sustained skill rather than a single lucky attempt. Climbing the monthly rankings requires consistent, high-quality submissions over weeks.
How Rankings Are Determined
Your rank on each leaderboard is determined by your composite score, which combines three factors: accuracy (how closely your drawing matches the ideal shape), speed (how quickly you completed the drawing), and smoothness (how fluid and jitter-free your strokes are). Accuracy carries the most weight, followed by smoothness, with speed as a smaller bonus.
Only your best score for each shape within the time period counts. If you draw a hexagon ten times in one day with varying results, the leaderboard only shows your highest score. This means there is zero downside to practicing — bad attempts never hurt your ranking.
When two players have the same composite score, the tiebreaker goes to the player who submitted that score first. Early submissions have a slight edge, which is another reason to play often.
Each Shape Has Its Own Leaderboard
ShapeArena features seven shapes: circle, square, triangle, pentagon, hexagon, star, and diamond. Each one has its own separate leaderboard across all three time periods. That means there are 21 distinct leaderboards at any given time (7 shapes times 3 time periods).
This structure lets you specialize. Maybe you have mastered circles but struggle with stars. You can focus your competitive energy on the shapes where you excel while continuing to practice the harder ones. Check the shapes guide for tips on each one.
Your Rank and Percentile
After every drawing submission, you immediately see your rank and percentile for that shape on the current daily leaderboard. Your rank is your absolute position (for example, 14th out of 230 players), and your percentile tells you what proportion of players you outscored (for example, top 6%).
The percentile is especially useful for gauging your skill relative to the community. Even if you are not in the top three, knowing you are in the top 10% of all circle drawers is a meaningful benchmark. Watching your percentile climb over days and weeks is one of the most satisfying parts of the ShapeArena experience.
Medals: Gold, Silver, and Bronze
The top three players on each leaderboard earn medals. First place receives gold, second place receives silver, and third place receives bronze. These medals are displayed next to your name on the leaderboard and serve as visible proof of your skill.
Medals are awarded based on the final standings at the end of each time period. For the daily leaderboard, that means your position at midnight UTC. For weekly, it is Sunday at midnight UTC. For monthly, it is the last day of the month at midnight UTC. If you hold first place all day but someone overtakes you in the final hour, they get the gold. Defending your position matters right up to the deadline.
Strategies for Climbing the Leaderboards
- Focus on accuracy first. It is the heaviest component of the composite score. A slow, precise drawing will almost always beat a fast, sloppy one.
- Submit multiple attempts. Only your best score counts, so there is no penalty for trying again. Each attempt is a chance to beat your personal best.
- Specialize in a few shapes. Rather than spreading your effort across all seven shapes, pick two or three and get really good at them. You can expand later.
- Study the top players. Look at which scores the current leaders are posting. That tells you the bar you need to clear. If the daily leader for circles has a 92, you know exactly what to aim for.
- Play the daily challenge. The daily challenge gives you a focused shape to practice each day, keeping your skills sharp across all shapes over time.
- Use consistent hardware. Switching between devices can introduce variability in your input. Stick to the same device and input method (mouse, stylus, or touch) when competing seriously.
- Warm up before your best attempts. Do a few casual drawings to get your hand steady before going for your leaderboard score.
The Social and Competitive Side
Leaderboards turn ShapeArena from a solo drawing exercise into a community competition. Seeing other players' names above and below yours creates a natural motivation to improve. You start to recognize regulars who consistently post high scores and develop informal rivalries.
The three time periods serve different competitive moods. The daily leaderboard is for quick, intense battles — can you beat today's best before midnight? The weekly leaderboard is for sustained effort over several days. And the monthly leaderboard is the long game, rewarding dedication and consistent performance.
Combined with the XP and leveling system, leaderboards ensure that every drawing session contributes to something larger — your rank, your progress, and your reputation in the ShapeArena community.
